inKONBINI: One Store. Many Stories is a third-person single-player simulation game centered around a small-town convenience store in the early 1990s. Shelve goods, engage in meaningful conversations with your customers, and see how choices you make impact their lives!
Good things take time… Many of you have been waiting for updates on development progress of inKONBINI ever since the game’s announcement in April this year.
Today, the game’s new trailer has had its premiere at Day of the Devs: The Game Awards Edition 2024 curated by Double Fine and iam8bit, Inc.
We at Nagai Industries are immensely proud to have inKONBINI featured among the most anticipated indie titles from all over the world, and as we’ve been quietly working on the game over the past eight months, now we feel the time is right to share with you some news.
The first order of things for us is to let you know that inKONBINI has reached an Alpha stage. It’s a really important development milestone, which means we have the game playable (still, not all of the episodes planned for release, but a large portion of them), all the core functionality is in place, as well as all the main story beats.
We often get asked what kind of experience inKONBINI will have to offer when it’s released and in what proportions the elements of simulation and narrative-driven adventure are mixed?
The truth is every game tells you what it wants to be, and if you listen carefully, it organically evolves into something unique and authentic. inKONBINI was conceived as a job simulation game, so for a long time we considered a simulation part to be the main pillar, therefore putting a lot of effort into making store management mechanics as smooth and intuitive as possible.
But as we kept working on the story elements, the characters started coming to life, and gradually we came to realise that the heart and soul of the game are really in player’s interaction with the customers, and at the same time that this is what makes the game stand out from the crowd of simulation-focused titles.
So, when it comes to genre definition, inKONBINI is a narrative-focused experience with simulation elements that are accessible and satisfying, but not overwhelmingly complex.
If we did our job right with the game’s announcement teaser, you might have already seen glimpses of the game’s elements and how they blend together, but in this new trailer we try to tell in a bit more straightforward way what the game is and how it’s going to be felt when you play it.
We hope you enjoyed watching the new trailer (if you haven’t yet, it’s right down below) and that you are excited to learn more about inKONBINI in the coming months.
