If you'd to browse my YouTube channel, you'd see that I eagerly wanted to make third person game. Even though I did put the effort to pull it off, after two months of messing with it I realized that it's just too much for me. Decided to stick to top-down perspective and never looked back since.
HOWEVER ! Why not combine best of both worlds and keep the scope reasonable ? In this short video you can see a work-in-progress hybrid camera aiming system that let's you get more immersed even though the core game being a top-down. I personally consider this feature to be one of the best things I've done so far.
It does still require some tweaks and improvements, but at this stage as you can see, it does look and play nice !
