Galileo, an Italian astronomer, physicist, and mathematician, lived in the 16th and 17th centuries and is known for his support of the Copernican theory, which proposed that the Earth and other planets revolve around the Sun, rather than the Earth being at the center of the universe. Galileo's ideas were controversial and challenged the prevailing religious beliefs of the time. In 1632, he published a book called "Dialogue Concerning the Two Chief World Systems," in which he presented arguments for the Copernican theory. This led to a conflict with the Catholic Church, which had supported the Aristotelian theory that placed the Earth at the center of the universe. Galileo was tried by the Inquisition in 1633 and found guilty of heresy for promoting the Copernican theory. He was forced to recant his ideas and spent the rest of his life under house arrest. It wasn't until 1992 that the Catholic Church formally acknowledged the errors of the trial and lifted the condemnation against Galileo.[/i] Guess what Jesus Freaks...we're going to 1633, to slay the inquisition.
