Hello Washers! Welcome to Dev Log 70 - Getting Dirty with Washing Data 💦 This time, with the help of FuturLab Principal Data Analyst, Russell, we're taking a look at some of the numbers behind PowerWash Sim.
Pitch Perfect PowerWashing
In a single day, players would blast through more than an estimated 154 million square metres of cleaning area in total. That's over 23,920 football pitches! ⚽ And the typical player (PS - all data we collect is anonymised) would individually use enough virtual water in one day to fill up 14 deep baths 🛁 When it comes to adding cleaning fluid to all that aqua, unsurprisingly the ever-useful Multi-Purpose soap comes out on top of the market share from the shop sales, with Metal following closely behind.
Your True Colours
When the people spoke, you told us that the yellow nozzle was - doof doof doof - ‘simply the best’. But is it actually the most commonly used?  In a word, yes! ✅ From the usage figures, we find the piercing power of Red in third place, followed by the well-balanced Green and a deserving gold medal going to your beloved all-things-to-all-people Yellow. With Yellow being used more than three times as much as Green, it was a runaway winner.  Interestingly, this ranking is the same whether we look at relatively new players or long-standing veterans.   What about costumes?  Well, from our shop data (excluding the ‘free’ specials, which fly off the shelves), we find that the most popular purchases are the beautifully-black outfit alongside the coordinating logo gloves. A stylish combo ✨ When it comes to the most popular Career jobs, one way to gauge this is to look at the proportion of players who complete jobs and then go back to wash it all over again in FreePlay mode. You will not be surprised that the first two jobs, the Van and the Back Garden, are both in the top three for FreePlay visits. But jumping in at the, er, ‘Number Two’ spot is the deliciously grimy and vandalised Subway Washroom.
That Ding You Do
One rather unique metric we use is Dings per Square Metre. This shows how closely packed a job’s subtasks - which lead to those joyous dings - are compared to its overall cleaning area. Across the collection of Career, Bonus, Seasonal and DLC content you will come across a wide range of this ‘ding density’, giving a variety of experiences. Generally, the smaller jobs tend to have the higher Dings per Square Metre. For example, the mudfest of the Dirt Bike has a relatively large concentration of dings due to the variety of metal components in a fairly small area. The typical player would average one ding every eight seconds here. On the other hand, a location like the Skatepark - with plenty of meaty surface areas to wash around the bowl and ramps - has a far lower ding density. For this job, it averages out around two dings per minute. That's all folks! As always, we'd love to hear feedback on anything shown today, so please let us know any of your thoughts in the comments below. And let us know which of those four playstyle groups you are in! 💦 We'll see you in the next DevLog! https://store.steampowered.com/app/1290000/PowerWash_Simulator/ Our links: Discord 💦 Twitter/X 💦 TikTok 💦 Instagram 💦 Facebook 💦 PWS Wiki 💦 Reddit 💦 FuturLab Twitch 💦
