Hi everyone! What a week. Just in case you missed it, [b]Slaughter League ‘attended’ its first gaming convention[/b] this week, and what a better convention to start at than E3!? When my brother and I were first discussing the idea of Slaughter League back in early 2020 we could never have imagined how far it would come. That said, we’re still very much at the start of the journey so who knows where SL will be in years to come! [h3][b][u]Slaughter League E3 trailer:[/u][/b][/h3] [previewyoutube=9ASNxrobsLs;full][/previewyoutube] I know a lot of our Discord has been asking about the economy and progression systems of Slaughter League, so today we are going to take a deeper dive into many of the systems we have planned. As with all these updates, things can change. Nothing is ever concrete but at this stage this is what we believe to be the direction the game is headed. Progression and the Economy A multiplayer game’s economy is often the most important part to get right regarding retaining longevity. The gameplay itself is always our number one priority but it is often the extrinsic rewards that keep players coming back and filling lobbies. The Slaughter League alpha featured a small visual slice of the economy, but nothing was really explained so this is what I intend to flesh out today. The game features four main statistics/currencies to earn via different means to unlock a variety of rewards. [u][b]Cash[/b][/u] Cash is the most basic and easily accessible currency in the game. Cash will be used to purchase cosmetics in the Item Shop as well as time-based XP/Fan boosts. These saws can be used to purchase cosmetics in the Premium Item Shop (which will be the only method of unlocking these items). Golden Saws can be purchased via microtransactions, but the game will be balanced so that a skilful persistent player has ways to unlock these via gameplay too. For example, once per day, if you win 5 consecutive matches in matchmaking, you get a Golden Saw. Fans are gained by performing well in matchmaking but can also be lost just as easy by performing poorly. You will be able to purchase time-based “Sponsorships” with Cash to add small multipliers to your fan performance. Reaching certain thresholds will grant various exclusive rewards such as titles, badges, capes etc. to show how popular you have become. Whenever you level up your avatar you will also level up any season pass you are currently working on. The game will launch with the Pre-Season season pass, a Level 1 – 50 progression system full of cosmetic rewards. Regardless of when a player purchases SL, the Pre-Season will ALWAYS be available to them as this will contain the bulk of the standard cosmetics for the game. If a player has also purchased the current season pass and has not yet completed the Pre-Season, they will earn a level on both Pre-Season and their current pass whenever leveling up.
