A New Decktamer Update is on the Horizon!
Get ready, Tamers! This update focuses on bringing more variety and strategic options to the early stages of your runs. Let's dive into what's new!
New Starters
Previously, every starting deck was mostly the same: 5 Hell Rats paired with either a Lantern Dog or a Glowtongue. This setup worked fine for the demo, but as we approach the full release, it became clear that we needed to revamp the system. Well, that time has come!
At the beginning of your run, you'll now have the option to select a starter card along with a group of starter "rats" (for lack of a better term). The limited choices we had (Hell Rat, Glowtongue, and Lantern Dog) just weren't enough to provide meaningful variety. So naturally... we’ve added a bunch of new starter creatures for you to choose from!

Possible starters to choose from: Lantern Dog / Glowtongue / Quetzi / Lumi / Shell Cat / Furball / Blood Grub

Possible group of allies to choose from: Hell Rat / Bell Rat / Bull Weevil
We hope this change makes each run feel a bit more unique and dynamic!
And on a related note... I wonder what would happen if a Golden Beetle were to bite one of these new creatures. 🤔
Poison Balance Changes
We felt like poison was a little bit too annoying to fight against so we've decided to slightly rework it: Poison will now decrease by 1 each turn, similar to how it functions in other deckbuilders like Slay The Spire.
Additionally, a few creatures have received some minor balance changes
Creature Renaming
You can now rename any of your creatures at any point in the run using the right click menu!

To rename, simply click the pen icon next to your creature's name.
Visual Changes
We’ve made some visual enhancements to improve clarity during battles.
The armor effect is now displayed above the heart icon, making it easier to see how much protection your creatures have.

Additionally, the game will now notify you when your draw pile, discard pile, or spyglass is empty. We've also tweaked how situational effects (like the Lantern Dog’s Lantern Talent that inflicts Vulnerable) are displayed, making it easier to distinguish them from regular effects.
Finally, keyword descriptions no longer go under the bottom of the screen when reading a card in your hand.
Conclusion
We hope you enjoy these new changes, it was quite a lot of work adding all of these new cards but we feel like it was worth the effort!
