You can see the numbers of troops slowly moving down as 2 leaders fight each other on the map, and the advantages and disadvantages of the troop types will also play a role. Your own troops can also get badly injured and have to be patched up by medics later. These changes make the troop battles go quickly, so it doesn't get tedious.
