Hello fellow villagers! 👋
A few devlogs ago we’ve introduced some of the inhabitants of our Daomei Village to you. You were interested in hearing about them so today we’ve invited some more to introduce themselves and share their stories! 💬
đŸč Qiqiang and Wushi đŸ¶
Archery used to be a virtue of all the Chinese Emperors and they enjoyed spending their time hunting. This brings us to the first person living in our village- Qiqiang, the former Chief Hunter of the royal palace. Was achieving this feat all his own effort or help from his father, he’s not sure. The fact is, there was not a single person able to match his archery skills. You may wonder, how could such a talented person end up exiled
One day the order came for Qiqiang to hunt wild birds for the upcoming feast. While embarking on the hunt he saw the girl he was in love with- Hongyan talking and laughing sweetly with the palace cook. This sight filled Qiqiang’s heart with hatred. His clouded mind made him unable to land a single shot and brought the Emperor's wrath upon him. The Emperor though gave him one more chance to redeem himself. Finally, the day has come- to prove his bow mastery he was ordered to shoot down the apple placed on the head of the servant. His mind though was filled with the images of how happy Hongyan was talking with the other man. This made him miss the aim and shoot down the Mianliu Guan from the top of the Emperor's head, revealing the bald spot it was hiding. This feat sealed the fate and exilement of Qiqiang. Wushi on the other hand is Qiqiang’s best friend and irreplaceable partner- a greyhound. He’s great at tracking prey and their cooperation is seamless. His presence brings more life and joy to the village of Daomei.
💭 Ping
Mr. Ping- once a trusted counselor of the Emperor made a single mistake but it was enough to share the fate of Qiqiang. Smith Ping has not always worked in the workshop. Although he started learning the craft from early childhood, his ambition and great intellect led him all the way to the tax office. It all started during the national exam. He ended up passing with the best grades and got hired in the office where he met his future wife- Daiyu. She was the daughter of the chief official. In no time Ping got promoted over and over again all the way to the manager of the palace treasury. He had free access to the Emperor, being given audiences even when no other person could’ve been granted one. Finally that cursed day came
As usual Ping had an audience with the Emperor during his majesty’s breakfast. He was even offered a cup of green tea and a bowl of rice which he gratefully accepted. There was no sign of what was about to come. While eating, a small fly landed on his nose making him sneeze. The entire court fell silent. Unfortunately, Ping was chewing rice, making him spit the rice all over the Emperor. His rage was immeasurable. He was cursing the poor Ping and exiled him. Ping has never run so quickly in his life. He only took his small daughter Xiulan, wife and some items before fleeing to the Daomei village.
📐 Honghui
The best engineer in the entire country. A person of many talents- engineering, constructing, architecture, he’s even an impressive inventor. His everyday duties were to assure the comfort of living for the Emperor. Part of his job was also ordering the repairs around the palace as well as improving the building. Although his true potential laid in his ability to invent ingenious appliances, the Emperor made him do projects he found boring and not challenging at all. One time instead of an agreement to test his new device he received an order to build another bridge over the brook in Emperor’s garden. Discouraged, he didn’t put much thought and effort in the design which resulted in the Emperor falling into the water, wetting his favorite silk slippers. Cold sweat covered Honghui’s cold face, when the Emperor shouted the order to cast the traitor out of the palace. In no time he got banished to live in the Daomei village. Nowadays, after his exilement, he has enough free time to focus on building a machine that produces his most favorite dish- baozi. The new environment he found himself in brought an unexpected change of heart. Xianmei a zither playing virtuoso captivated his heart with her music. This made Honghui work even harder to be able to treat Xianmei to something tasty. He finds his feelings for Xianmei an obstacle in his work but he can’t help but want to get closer to her once the machine is done. What he doesn’t know is that because of all the noise coming from his house, she’s trying to avoid him, considering him uncultural. Will their feelings ever become mutual? You’ll have to find out for yourself!
đŸŒș Qiang
Daughter of the most prominent florist family. She’s the third generation responsible for maintaining the Emperor’s garden. It all started with her grandfather, who raised the most beautiful rose to celebrate the visit of the Emperor in his village. It’s worth mentioning it wasn’t the hibiscus, often called chinese rose but an actual rose. Captivated by the flower’s beauty, the Emperor invited him to become the royal gardener. It was at this moment that flowers became Qiang’s family’s entire world. Hearing this amazing story many times in her life, Qiang wanted to surpass her grandfather and show her skills to the Emperor. She decided to raise a rose as a gift for the Emperor's upcoming birthday. It couldn’t be any rose, if she was to accomplish this feat the flower she raised had to be both the most beautiful and the most beautifully smelling. When the day came, she was ready to present her masterpiece- the Heavenly Rose. Unfortunately, she didn’t remove the thorns and once the Emperor poked his finger with one, he fainted at the sight of blood. After bringing disgrace to her family’s tradition. Qiang decided to protect her beloved family members and decided to flee the city and bring all the shame with her. That finally brought her all the way to Daomei village. Despite everything that happened, she never stopped loving flowers and her house and garden are real pieces of art. She is often seen sitting on the bench in front of her house admiring the plants. You can always visit her and buy some flower seeds, she’ll gladly share!
đŸŽ¶ Xianmei
As we’ve already mentioned, her guzheng zither playing skills are unparalleled. She was born in a humble village and to learn how to play zither she had to travel through dangerous forest on a daily basis, just to be able to attend the lessons. She was determined to succeed because of the stories she heard about how knowing how to play can provide for her and her family. In no time Xianmei’s genius made her climb to the top of the music world and her Master recommended her for the position of the Emperor’s musician. Many tried to face her and just that many had to forfeit in front of her talent and guzheng mastery. She felt she’s living her dream until that one day that changed everything
The Emperor ordered Xianmei to perform his favorite song. She immediately started performing but at some point she made a mistake and an incorrect note crawled into her otherwise impeccable performance. This was enough to bring the Emperor’s wrath upon her. He doesn’t need a musician who can’t even perform his most favorite song perfectly. She was exiled and the Daomei village became her new home. Her life is peaceful, filled with guzheng music which you can hear while passing by her home. She’s probably the only person in the entire village not irritated by Enlai’s creations about the Moon. After all the music was inextricably linked to the cosmos and Moon is part of it. Her house stands next to Honghui’s, which makes her irritated because of all the noises coming from his home.
