1978, New York City. Lupe, a young Puerto Rican American teenager, meets Debbie in a juvenile detention centre. Fascinating and self-destructive, Debbie exposes Lupe to the underground scene of the 1970’s Lower East side.
Despite their total lack of musical abilities, the two runaways decide to form their own punk music band, pushed by the powerful lyrics written by Lupe.
Both coming of age story and ode to coming of age, Battlescar explores the theme of identity. With its two strong female leads, the movie borrows from New York punk’s traditions and reveals to the viewer the secrets worlds co-existing in the Lower East Side in the late 70’s through the use of animation and immersive environments in virtual reality.
